The Cumberland County Commissioners proclaimed March 2021 “Cumberland County Shop Local Month” to encourage shopping at Cumberland County retail stores. Throughout the month, CAEDC — in partnership with Cumberland County and the four area Chambers of Commerce — spotlighted the importance of our local shops to the economic strength of our community.
#CVShops highlights Cumberland Valley’s diverse assortment of boutiques, specialty gift shops, galleries, and more. Your shopping journey will take you to more than 200 locations, where you’ll discover a treasure trove of unique and local items. Seek out a new shop or return to an old favorite. Either way, you will find exactly what you need combined with great customer service and Cumberland Valley’s hometown friendliness.
These mom-and-pop shops have also been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now is the time to rally to support your beloved local favorites so they will be here in the future.
Statistics reveal the following about the importance of shopping local to the community:
- Small businesses generate $68 of local economic return for $100 spent with them.
- Over $9.3 billion would be directly returned to our economy if every US family spent just $10 a month at a local business.
- Businesses with fewer than 500 employees account for 99.7% of all US employers.
- Small businesses donate 250% more than large businesses to community causes.
- Local business generates 70% more local economic activity per square foot than big-box retail.

Suggestions To Support Our Local Shops:
- If you feel comfortable, shop in person
- Shop online and arrange for shipping or curbside pickup.
- Buy a gift card.
- Like, share, and repost on social media or write a review. Be sure to share using #CVShops.
- Sign up for a store’s e-newsletter to learn about special promotions and share the love with friends…
